Research Topics

  • Investigating thermal transport properties of minerals and rocks to understand driving forces in geodynamics. Measurements of temperature dependent thermal diffusivity and its relation to elastic properties and crystal structure.
  • Development of generic laser flash method data evaluation routines in python programing language.
  • Understanding the different infleuncing factors on thermal diffusivity measurements by laser flash method in terms of coating effects, delayed data acquisition and sample size effects. Here, influences on escpecially small, thin and/or high diffusive materials are of special interest as (natural/synthetic) single crystals are often rarely accesible in a sufficient required size.
  • Growth of world´s biggest known synthetic Portlandite Ca(OH)2 single crystals by diffusion experiments.
  • Determination of complete elastic 4th rank tensors on singly crystals by Brillouin spectroscopy to characterize rare natural and synthetic crystals and to understand the bulk elastic properties.
  • Instrumentation, operation and evaluation of data of the neutron strain/stress diffractometer Epsilon-MDS at beamline 7A of the pulsed neutron source IBR-2M, Dubna (Russia).
  • Analysis of diffraction data of uniaxially loaded polycrystalline matter with respect to their behavior according to the models proposed by Voigt (1889) and Reuss (1929).
