The bachelor’s program in Environmental and Georesource Management offers an interdisciplinary education that combines geological sciences, engineering, business administration, and law.

Graduates are prepared to apply their expertise in various fields, including government agencies, industry, law, politics, and consulting. They understand the complexity of environmental and georesource management issues as well as relevant legal frameworks and are able to analyze current and future-oriented topics such as climate and environmental change, the circular economy, and securing raw material supplies.

After completing the foundational coursework, students can choose specialization modules, including geodesy and computer science, energy management, industrial production, and regional planning.

The program is designed for students who have a fundamental interest in geoscientific and engineering topics, wish to engage with complex societal issues, and are interested in economic and legal approaches.

Graduates work in a variety of professional fields, such as strategic planning, research and development, the raw materials industry, energy and water supply, urban mining, and land-use planning. Management consulting firms, insurance companies, and the public sector also offer career opportunities.

The bachelor’s program is structured in modules. The program is divided into the following subject areas:

  • Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics (37 LP)
  • Geology (60 LP)
  • Fundamentals of Economics (10 LP)
  • Fundamentals of Law (9 LP)
  • Geoinformation Systems (9 LP)
  • Climate and Ecoregions (7 LP)
  • Interdisciplinary Qualifications (6 LP)

Throughout the program, required-elective modules allow students to develop an individualized academic profile and explore their personal interests in depth, totaling 30 LP.

The Bachelor’s program concludes with a final thesis worth 12 LP.


The master’s program in Environmental and Georesource Management builds on the bachelor’s program of the same name, has an interdisciplinary focus, and offers opportunities for specialization in the areas of energy and raw materials management or environmental management. The program combines geological and environmental sciences with engineering, business administration, and legal topics, enabling graduates to work at the intersection of various disciplines.

By teaching students problem-solving skills in the context of decision-making processes related to energy, natural resources, and environmental technology, the program equips them to tackle complex societal challenges.

The program is intended for graduates with a first university degree in environmental and earth sciences or a comparable field of study. Graduates of the program are versatile professionals, whether in the natural resources industry, the energy and water sectors, environmental planning and management, consulting firms, or the public sector.

Program Structure

In the Master’s program, the first year of study is divided into the following subject areas:

  • Geoscientific Methods (9 LP)
  • Economics (10 LP)
  • Law (3 LP)
  • Planning, Implementation, and Optimization (8 LP)

Starting in the second semester, students must select a specialization totaling 60 LP. Students are required to choose one of the two specializations: Energy and Raw Materials Management or Environmental Management.

The program concludes with a master’s thesis worth 30 LP.
